Cute unisex style for all seasons. Easy to sew and the lining adds a neat finish. Keen to try the trouser variation next!

The most perfect dungarees you could want or need! Easy to follow instructions and a pattern that comes together with no problems! I really love the curved lines for the straps and the timeless look of the front bib. Both the shorts and trouser lengths are a great fit, with enough room to play and move around in! And also SO CUTE!! Pockets of course for little treasures – so wonderful and definitely appreciated by my little ones! These will absolutely become a staple in our wardrobe for all seasons!!

My girl is in love with her new dungarees! I had made her both versions (short and trouser) and it is a great addition to her mommy-made wardrobe. It’s also an easy sew with easy to follow instructions.

Wow!! These dungarees are the best! Another wonderful pattern with an easy to follow tutorial make these a great staple in any child’s wardrobe! Can’t wait to make lots more…

I’ve made both the short version and the trousers for my 11month old and almost 3year old, great fit, even accommodate my 11month old’s cloth bum, plenty of room for movement while the kids are crawling, climbing and running around. Would also recommend for beginners, nice clear instructions to follow and detailed tutorial

A beautiful sew and an on trend relaxed look. I have sewn both the short and long versions and my girls love them. They are already asking for more. The Tipa Dungarees features BTK’s trademark thorough tutorials and makes every step easy to understand and professional in its finishes. 💙

Awesome dungarees. They look cute in linen and ribcord, and no doubt in many more fabrics. I love the crossed back straps – which prevent them from sliding from the shoulders. And I love the eye for detail in BTK patterns, and so also in this. It’s all very well explained in the tutorial and has a very professional finish.
kylie.rick (verified owner) –
Such a sweet pattern! Really well thought out design, clear and in depth instructions. I 100% recommend to sewists of all levels!

Made them in size 1 for my wee boy who is (a small) 10 months old. Tried them on him this morning, lots of growing room with the straps and the body fits great! With his nappy the shorts end past his knees, but all his shorts do at the moment. Very happy with the fit and look of them.
I’m a newbie to making clothes and found the tutorial really easy to follow.
Thanks for the lovely pattern!
Jenn Powell (verified owner) –
Loved making these dungarees. The tutorial was everything I needed and more, step by step photos and instructions were so helpful for a novice. Made them in scrap fabric for a test and I can’t wait to get some funky fabric to sew some more.

Such a gorgeous pattern and so easy to make. Highly recommend

I love how I’m learning to become a more confident sewer with each pattern. They’re challenging enough to teach me new skills but not to complex that I can finish it in a day. These overalls are so great and I’m excited to make more

I’ve made 3 pairs of these now and getting faster each time. Such an easy pattern to follow, the details help you remember what to do next, so for a beginner sewer these patterns are perfect!
I also love the end product, they look so professional and people are always surprised to hear they’re hand made!
I recently tried a different pattern from another company (for a pair of leggings, should be simple….) but I found the instructions lacking compared to what I had gotten used to with Below the Kōwhai. And found that I wanted the same professional finish I get with these patterns. Time for a kids pants pattern Sophie?! Haha

My grandson loves both pairs that I’ve made for him. He couldn’t look any cuter in them than he does! They’re a great sew, and I was so happy with how well the pattern went together, and I was, of course, happy with the results.
pendlebury.helen (verified owner) –
This was my first BTK pattern and now I want them all.
I’m a intermediate/beginner/self taught sewer so nothing flash but found the pattern super easy to follow and the results lovely.
Tina Thomas (verified owner) –
I really enjoyed sewing this pattern – its just so cute. I made them in denim, added traditional dungaree buckles and plenty of topstitching. I love the fact that the bib is lined and gives a lovely professional finish. I sewed age 3 and they fit perfectly. I’ll definitely be using this pattern many more times and highly recommend it for all sewing levels. I now can’t wait to try some other BTK patterns.
Juulsoofhandmade (verified owner) –
I love this pattern. It’s so easy but with a great result.
The options for both shorts and long pants makes this pattern suitable for al seasons depending on the fabric you use. Made it out of linen, jeans and ribcord and they all gave a completly diferent look.
The tutorials are perfect and easy to follow, as usual with BTK patterns.

I’ve tried a few different dungaree patterns and this one is my favourite so far. The back is stunning and my 4yr olds adore the pockets and have been busy filling them with flowers and leaves. The fit is fantastic, with brilliant instructions which are simple and easy to follow perfect for all experience levels.
jillsauve (verified owner) –
Such a wonderful satisfying pattern to sew! With clear instructions to guide you through each step you will be delighted with the results …. love this pattern!

I made these in the shirts version for my son. I love how they turned out. It’s so great to have a cute and trendy option for boys as well as girls. It was easy to make and the illustrated instructions were really straightforward to follow. I love how you can personalise them to make them unique. So many options. I can see myself making these again and again as my kids get older.

I LOVE this pattern. I am currently working on a long pair for winter for both of my sons. They really love their short ones and since they are growing so fast I will need to make more for this summer! I find the accompanying tutorial really helpful and detailed enough that I don’t feel overwhelmed at all. The finished product is so high quality, it’s a really good feeling. I reckon anyone looking to try sewing for their kids should give the BTK patterns a go! I also find Sophie is very responsive to any questions I’ve had during a sew or when choosing fabric. Thanks BTK for such lovely patterns!

A really cute and simple sew.. there are great options to go long or short and even a handy hack to have an elastic cuff. For a beginner sewer like me, the tutorial and other offered resources are a godsend. I have had so many compliments about them…thanks very much, I have learnt to sew using btk patterns!

Very excited to have found this site and this pattern! This is not only a gorgeous pattern but it’s also very easy to follow. I’m a total beginner and I am thrilled with the result 😀. Nice details like the beautifully shaped cross over back, pockets etc give a really professional result but they were so easy when they are explained in detail. Thank you so much can’t wait to try the Tui pinafore now 😃

These dungarees were surprising easy to make! Yet another BTK pattern with beautifully clear and easy to follow instructions. The style is perfect for boys and girls of all ages and can easily be personalised. I like the facing finish. Have made a short summer cotton version but planning on a long leg version and to try out the dress hack on the blog!

The Tipa dungarees were my first BTK sew, and I found them really straightforward to make.
The tutorial is excellent, and they turn out so well! They are super cute when worn, and I love the versatility with sizes and lengths so you can allow for growth.
joannemccallum88 (verified owner) –
The Tipa Dungarees are now one of my favourite sewing patterns! My daughter loves her two pairs that I have made her. Easy to follow instructions as well as layers for printing the sizes you need.
Can’t wait to make the adult ones as well!
Gemma Tokeley (verified owner) –
Such a wonderful pattern with great results! I used the projector files and they were great – clear lines and unfolded pattern pieces. Such a lot of thought has gone into making the projector files clear and useable and this is so refreshing, as many pattern companies are not so well thought through! I’d really recommend this pattern as a lovely classic and well fitting dungaree!
Rachel Kirby (verified owner) –
This is such a fun pattern! As I have found with all BTK patterns I’ve made, it works perfectly first time and good for a confident beginner as the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Most important though is that kids can play easily in these and my 4 year old has no trouble taking them on and off herself.
Anna Cunningham (verified owner) –
Such a cute garment and a simple sew that turns out looking very professional – perfect for summer play
Kelly Chu (verified owner) –
This is without doubt, my most favourite kids pattern ever!
*unisex
*thoughtful construction
*comfortable, with pockets too!
*economical use of fabric.
*lasts ages as it can be made to allow for some growth by just adding longer straps or more buttons.
*easy to undress for the toilet training ones!
*really lovely finish on the inside.
*and the straps never fall down like the ones I had made prior to finding this gem.
Love love love them!

Made a cute blue couderoy pair for my nephew. He loves them and wears them all the time. Another easy to follow pattern that makes the person sewing it look good!

This pattern was a dream to sew! The instructions are clearly written with colour-coded diagrams. The final product was adorable and I am looking forward to making more in the near future (I am also inspired to make the adult version)!
Jordan McCaskill (verified owner) –
Definitely my most favourite sew to date. The pattern and instructions were easy to follow and the dungarees come together so quickly. They are the cutest thing my kid now owns and I can’t wait to make more!
Tangiwai Robinson (verified owner) –
I just love this pattern so practical and so cute!! The crossover straps is such a nice feature. Made for my crawling baby who over heats so had these on him with a long sleeve singlet and he was the perfect temperature with the fire going he had no issues getting round with the shorts length. Can’t wait to make the long version!
Jess King (verified owner) –
Easier than I expected to sew (easy instructions!) they look great! I have made 5 pairs all together in different sizes and I’ll definitely make more!!!
Gemma Calder (verified owner) –
Things I love:
The way the back straps cross over helps stop the straps from falling down,
The shorts length – I thought the longer length might look a bit daggy on a girl because all the rtw ones are so short, but they look great, and for once she can sit down without half her nappy falling out
The lovely roomy pockets
The excellent instructions
The projector file inclusion
Things I don’t like:
How long it took me to get off the fence about buying this pattern.
Rachel Penney (verified owner) –
I absolutely LOVE this pattern! Just love it !

This pattern is outstanding! I’ve done a bit of sewing before but had never made any clothing, and a friend recommended Below the Kowhai because of the extremely well written and detailed patterns and instructions. I wasn’t disappointed! The first pair of overalls I made were gorgeous and didn’t take me too long, and the instructions made perfect sense. These were a joy to sew and I’m excited to make more!
